It’s almost here and we have been more than a little overwhelmed. Bruce had to finish his last class, I had to finish my University of Phoenix class, our Girl Scout troop hosted a unit event to support Project Angel Heart, we went to the Parade of Lights and Disney on Ice in one weekend, we had the Mentzers over for our pre-holiday dinner and gift exchange, and, oh, I found out that our school district has to cut $35 million and five teachers from our school alone next year.
So much for the recession not having an impact on education!
Needless to say, the morale at school is a tad morose, I’m not sure what my job will look like or where I will work, or who I will be working with, and it’s a heavy cloud to hang over my head, but not anywhere near as heavy as the one that hovers over the probationary teachers who will lose their jobs.
All the same, the holidays are upon us, and we can head straight for break knowing that at least things are OK now, that I have amazing people to work with, the best family I could ever ask for, a roof over our heads and delicious homemade food on the table. Bruce’s parents arrived last night and his sister and family will be here by Sunday, so for the first time in twelve years of marriage, we will have more than a full house for Christmas, and don’t have to travel ourselves! We have a beautiful white pine tree that we picked out at Nick’s during a snowstorm/zero-degree weather, enough gifts for everyone, and firewood piled up out back to keep us all warm, inside and out. Christmas is coming, and we… are… ready!
