CandyEvery year my mama always makes her old-fashioned hard candy and gives it away to a few lucky individuals for Christmas. It has been a tradition of hers for as long as I can remember. Her making candy during the holidays is a memory that remains strong in my mind, even at 31 years old. The aromas of cinnamon, licorice, and butterscotch filled the house for days and days. For the past few years, as I watch my girls grow and grow, I have thought about how happy the candy made me as a little boy and how happy other people were when they received it as a gift.

CandySo, this year I decided to make some myself. I talked to mom to find out exactly how to make it and tried a few test runs to make sure I could get it to come out right. It was surprisingly easy to do. The aromas filled our house to make it smell like a candy factory. The girls love it of course and Mythili had a great time helping me break a few runs apart. I will look forward to making the candy again next year and may even make some for different occasions.
