We spent Super Bowl weekend doing various activities with the kids. Bruce has class on Saturdays, so the kids and I mostly just hung out at home during the morning, minus a trip to King Soopers for barley for our beef and barley soup. Isabella and Mythili were so excited when I paid with cash and got “money,” a penny each, so they could ride the horse and carriage ride.
That afternoon, Bruce and I took the kids to see The Bee Movie. It was all right. The kids each got movie meals, which they ate up. Riona got a little antsy for a while, but finally settled down and sucked her thumb.
On Sunday, we started with a pancake and egg breakfast, the kids’ favorite because each time they get a new pancake, they love choosing a different topping from our variety of honey, maple, or regular syrup. Even Riona screams her demands and point to her plate when she wants more syrup. Then Bruce and I finished up our taxes and we took the kids out to lunch to celebrate our refund. Isabella loves the pizza buffet at Beau Jo’s because it gives her an excuse to get out of her seat. Mythili is perfectly happy with us bringing her pizza to her while she colors and imagines that the crayons are real people.
After lunch, we took the kids to a playground in Lafayette. It was very cold, but the kids didn’t mind. Bruce and I had a blast bouncing on a modern stand-up version of a see saw, and Riona just loved the slide. She wasn’t afraid at all, and as soon as she leaned forward and we caught her each time, she pushed away from us to be put at the top again. She went down about twenty times or more.
We went to my parents’ house to eat chicken wings, try out Dad’s new drink concoction (inedible), and watch the Super Bowl. Dad always cheers for the underdog, so he was happy that the Giants won, despite his New England blood. We had chocolate Lindt truffles for dessert, and saw Mom’s progress on Isabella’s birthday dress. She is making the same dress that she wore when she was five years old.
